James Bailey has received devastating news after a health scare in Coronation Street.

Wednesday’s (September 7) episode continued an issue-based story where James learned he may have to give up his football career due to a heart condition known as cardiomyopathy.

James was busy coaching the Rovers team, training them for a charity match against rival pub The Flying Horse, yet had to eventually join the team himself.

The footballer agreed to step in for Team Rovers when Tim Metcalfe angrily quit following a miscommunication with Peter Barlow over his own recent medical issues.

Tim had a light-hearted chat with Aggie about what he was going through as the footie action kicked off on the pitch. The game was eventually interrupted abruptly when James collapsed midfield.

Ed and Michael were quick on the scene to perform CPR, all the while Aggie was ignoring her phone buzzing to continue her chat with Tim.

James was rushed to the hospital where doctors were able to stabilise him after he went into cardiac arrest.

Once Aggie realised her family had been trying desperately to get a hold of her, she was wracked with guilt over not being there in James’ hour of need.

Eventually, James’ doctor broke the news to him that he has a heart condition that may prevent him from ever playing football again.

James will need to be fitted with an ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) to prevent further cardiac arrests due to his cardiomyopathy.

In upcoming scenes, the Baileys struggle to get through to James because he’s intent on brushing aside the diagnosis to continue his career.
